Do Your Job

*To wear the crown one must first carry the crown. In this piece, I want to show you how to serve other’s so you can in turn serve yourself better.*

We all have a job to do. I’m not talking about one you hate doing. For most of you, I’m not even referring to the one (or even two or three) you work to put food on the table. The job I’m talking about is so much bigger than what you’re accustomed to. Bigger, because it exists in the background image of your spiritual DNA. This is not a 9-5. This job is commensurate with those hidden powers which only you have–a combination of unique intangibles that exist in you and you only. Your real job is the one that harnesses those deep-seated gifts that are endowed by the most high. It is about this that I want to talk with you today on this Christmas day.

On Christmas, there is so much to celebrate because we all have something to be thankful for. What I try to highlight in all of my posts are those God given talents that were given to you from your inception–there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. But for many of us, we fall short in life no matter how hard we try. What I’ve come to find out in my experience is that even with all the diligence and heartfelt determination in the world, if you’re doing a job you can’t stand, you will live a life that is beneath your standard. Making matters worse is the gifts you do have will inherently be suppressed (unless you engage in countless submissions of The White Paper) because clearly, you’re not living the life you really want to live, because you aren’t doing the work you were sent to do.

That’s right. You were sent here to do a job. And today, on this post, my job is to help you find out what yours is and get you started doing it. I want to assist you in being that testament to the role that skill and judgement born of your unique experience play in successfully navigating you to your ideal job.

Do the job in life you’d do if you didn’t need the money.

They say that if you do what you love you’ll never have to work a day in your life. For me, that is not all the way true. As much as I love writing, it is still work. The difference maker is, it’s work I deeply enjoy doing. Much like going to the gym and training for two hours with weights and cardio–that’s a lot of work, but it’s work I take pleasure in doing, so it feels fun, because it is. So, if like most you’re working to earn a check to keep your bills paid and food on the table, by all means, keep doing it. In addition to that, I want to transition you to your real job–even if it’s something you begin on the side a few hours a week. Whatever that may be, you will love it so much, you won’t even be pressed to make it profitable (at least not immediately) even if you’re broke.

Doing your job = Completion

When you have it, you’ll know, because it’ll do something for you no other job has. I’m grasping at words to fully describe what writing/blogging does for me, but all I can say is… there’s this overwhelming feeling of completion that comes with every post. For the first time in my life, I feel like I’m actually contributing something of importance. There’s a real value in this feeling. Think of a circle. A circle is only a circle when it is complete. Half-circles are half complete; they are not fulfilled. We all have a need to be fulfilled. The significance of this is not to be underestimated. When you are fulfilled you are literally At Your Best. So when you are at your best, you’re more likely to influence those around you to be at their best–this is a circle whereby we all benefit.

Humans are living breathing beings of energy. There’s enough power in each of us to literally power our dreams. When you can take an idea that’s in your head, and make it reality, you are doing your job. So being that I’ve elaborated on the importance of doing your job, you may be thinking, “Ok! This all sounds good but, what if you don’t know what your job is?”

Sure you’ve taken notes in school, but do you ever take notes on yourself?

What are your values? What legacy do you want to leave behind? How do you want to be remembered? What matters most to you? How can you contribute to this great family known as humanity? How can you leave the world in better condition than when you found it? Lastly… what is something you enjoy doing so much that you’d be willing to do it for free? (For that last question, I need you to remove all your barriers. Go at it as if failure were impossible.)

These are just some of the dozens of questions you can ask yourself. You’ll be surprised by how much you keep hidden from yourself. What you’re doing here is holding a job interview for your life. I stumbled across this method by asking myself a question and writing down the first answer that came to mind. Now, this might be the case because I’m a writer, but there’s something productive about writing things down that one cannot accomplish with thinking alone. When you write down a question to yourself, you are sounding out the answer. You see, the mind is an omnipotent power that is infinitely mysterious in what and how it goes about the business of problem solving. For instance, if you pose it a question, it will return an answer instantly. Now, that answer is not always correct, but it will give you a response nonetheless. We’ve all heard of a job interview. You can do the same thing with yourself. I’m showing you a technique that will get you the job you really want.

If you hold your own job interview, you just might change your life.

Alright, now the next step for you is putting all this into motion. You know what you want to do. Now, you just need a way to put it all together in the real world. Depending upon where you are and how far apart you are from actually achieving your dream job, it’s sometimes all too easy to become discouraged. So if this is what you are feeling, I want you to know that for most of us, that’s the normal reaction. There’s nothing wrong with feeling this way. It’s daunting. What you have to do is combat those negative thoughts and feelings. You absolutely will come up against negative forces even in your personal life around family and friends. A lot of people will tell you that you can’t do it. Just remember a few things as follows: They don’t respect you at the bottom. They ignore you in the middle. Then they hate you when you get to the top. In other words, you’ll never have everyone’s approval, so you may as well go for it! If you know these things to be true, go at it as if you have nothing to lose.

Don’t let the voices of those telling you “you can’t” be heard over the sound of you getting it done.

Each day represents another step up that stairwell to the fruition of your dream.

The sound of you moving up must always be louder than the sounds of those forces pulling you down. That being said, if you know what you want to do, and it scares you, that’s not a bad thing. If you are scared, that means you respect it enough to give it your all. Here’s what I mean: If you’re intimidated by your own “job,” you will more than likely do all you can to prepare for it to the best of your ability. All you have to do is go at it like never before–something certainly easier to do when it’s something you actually want to do. Even if the work involved turns out to be hard, it won’t even matter to you, because you’ll be well on the path to doing what you’re meant to. When you exert your best effort, you will most certainly get what you’re after.

If you’re not ready to go straight in and do your job, then you’re in the preparation phase. You know what you want to do, but you’re not ready yet. Perhaps you don’t have the necessary tools or knowledge or education. Whatever your particular case is, if you find yourself in this situation, I’ll give you something you can do right now no matter where you sit.

To be in position you must first assume the position.

Allow me to explain what I mean–imagine yourself doing your job. I don’t have to tell you what to think or feel when you do this, because no one knows better than you. I think it’s safe to say that when you do this, you will probably feel good. Now the key is to capture this image you see of yourself and hold it. Don’t ever let it go. Whatever it is you are seeing belongs to you and you only. No one and nothing can take that away from you. Only you can do so–and that’s something you’re not going to do.

Now as you are doing this I want you to see yourself further. Make these images of yourself and the surroundings as clear and defined as a 4K monitor. Visualize yourself doing your job. You can see your face, your clothes, your demeanor. Visualize yourself with friends or family while you’re doing your job. Allow these images to completely saturate your line of thinking–this is very important. When you are engaging in this, what you are really doing is programming pathways that will see to it that you have what you need to arrive at your goal. Even if you have no idea what you’re doing, I assure you, try this! What you have to learn to do is leave your fears and doubts behind and become one with a power higher than yourself. But to do so, you must assume the position. You have to play the role.

Here’s the role I play: There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t see myself here.

What would you be like if you arrived? Ask yourself that question and I guarantee you’ll see the answer inside your own head. After you do, then work on becoming that person. Be, that person. You don’t have to wait for things to be right. You don’t have to wait for friends or loved ones to tell you that you’re doing the right thing. You don’t have to wait to have more money or a better body or day or night job–whatever it is that you see, start becoming that person. Play that role from this moment on.

You cannot do what you’ve always done. Remember, you’re leveling yourself up so things are going to be different. If any of this is uncomfortable for you, I encourage you to get comfortable being uncomfortable. There will be growing pains. But that’s to be expected because you are growing. I’d rather see you be known for something than known for nothing. We all get only one shot at this life. Too many of us live our lives beneath the standards set by our dreams. We not only stop dreaming, but we stop living the dream.

I never come out of my dream. It means too much to me to wake up from it.

As children we are so much more powerful than we are as adults for that one simple reason. For a child, the word impossible doesn’t exist. That’s the difference.

This is your responsibility–no one is going to do this for you. This is your vision and that being the case, that’s why it’s so magnificent! No one else in the world can have better plans for you than you do.

I will now close this piece out with a few words that would’ve saved me much frustration in my youthful days had I adhered to them better. If you are up to the challenge of doing your job, implement these changes to your life as follows:

  1. Hate no one, no matter how much wrong they’ve committed against you.
  2. Live humbly, no matter how much wealth you accumulate. You are no better than anyone else. Period.
  3. Think positively–if you think on positive terms you will achieve positive results. If you think on negative terms, you will get negative results.
  4. Give it all you can, even when you’ve been given little. To get a lot you must give a lot.
  5. Forgive yourself. Love, not self-hate.
  6. Never stop praying for the very best for everyone.
  7. Serve the needs of other’s first–there’s no better outlet for your God given abilities.

Be yourself in a world that’s telling you to be like everyone else. In short, Do Your Job.

I believe in you:)

May your results be as immaculate as the beauty of your dreams.
